I spent some time away from photography due to burnout and injury. During that time I got bored and while healing decided to learn and train in User Experience. It made me see photography in a different light, not as something that I had to do, but wanted to truly do.
Over the last nine years of my career, I have been exploring and learning constantly. I learned that knowledge of all types can translate into many fields, we can all learn from each other. I wanted to translate that into my work by showing the beauty of life in a chaotic world.
"In photography there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality."
Alfred Stieglitz
Ann loves exploring new places and capturing all the things that sees. Whether by car or plane she tries to include her family in all her trips, because the more the merrier. When she is not on an adventure capturing images She can be found at home creating even more images for her blog. She travels around the world with her favorite gear and brings home memories immortalized in her amazing photographs. Ann is also an abstract painter and lover of all types of art. Exploring museum is a favorite of hers, from wandering around the different exhibits to spending a super long time at the museum gift shop.
Ann is a professional photographer who grew up in Boston, USA. As a child, Ann loved spending her days creating, playing and exploring. When she was a child she would draw pictures with watercolors and chalk. During her teen years, she discovered digital arts. She immediately fell in love with the ability to create something from nothing , and it lead her to her passion of photography.
Ann discovered photography during a dark time in her life. On a whim she brought an entry level Nikon and drove up to New Hampshire to clear her mind. While there in the quietness of the forest and mountains she fell in love with photography.
It goes without saying that it does not matter what system you use to create, the best gear you have is the one you have closest to you and what you can afford. I have been a Nikon user for my whole career. I learned and fell in love with photography on an used Nikon D90 and kit lens. My current body is a Nikon D850, this guy is built and works like a tank.
The camera lens is the most important tool in a photographers kit. It aids us in telling the story we want to tell and create. Nikon has a powerful family of glass going back years and years. You could use the same F-mount lens on their current bodies from 30 years ago and more. I personally use Nikon 105mm 2.8 macro, Nikon 135mm 2.0, Nikon 24-70mm 2.4, Nikon 14-24mm 2.8 and Nikon 50mm 1.8. I photograph a wide variety subjects so it is important for me to have a wide variety choices for any situation.
When I was attending Photography school we were all taught on Profoto lights. So I was blessed with the ability to have learning knowledge of the system in and out of the studio. When I graduated I purchased a set of old Profoto 600R with a few pocket wizards and lightboxes. I still use this set today because they have not failed me once with a client or personal project. Only issue that may inspire me to switch up is the amount of power they use, it can be very scary sometimes depending on locations.
Protecting your gear is the single most important thing you can do for your investments. So I use Pelican cases to protect my gear, they are waterproof and bulletproof. Originally they are used (still used) by the military to transport firearms and electronics. The cases have a built in luggage handle that is retractable, wheels and a handle for carrying. The case is so strong I use it to sit on and stand on in any condition and location.
